Riina Sildos

Born in Estonia 1964, Riina Sildos graduated from Tartu University in 1987 with the thesis on film semiotics. Afterwards she worked as a researcher, in the Institute for Language and Literature, in Estonian Academy of Sciences.
From 1993 she worked as a film critic in Estonian Broadcasting Company. From 1994 she worked in Estonian Radio at several positions until she became member of the Board of Directors. In 2000 she was appointed the Managing Director of Estonian Film Foundation. In 3 years, she established the Baltic Films, the promotional body for marketing Baltic films and the international co-production market Baltic Event.
She is one of the founders of the Estonian FIPRESCI section and the international film festival in Tallinn, Estonia – the Black Nights Film Festival.
From summer 2003 she started her own production company Amrion and is working also as a producer with one of the oldest animation companies in Europe, Eesti Joonisfilm, on several animation films including the biggest film project in Baltics Lotte from Gadgetville which was selected to Berlin Film Festival Generations KPlus competition in 2007 and is sold to more than 45 world territories. For that she was nominated by Cartoon Tribute as a Producer of the Year in 2007. New Lotte animation feature is now in development.
She has produced a local box-office hit a family feature Mat the Cat developed in EAVE 2004, 3 documentaries including Wounds of Afghanistan and a youth drama The Class by Ilmar Raag.
One More Croissant with award winning script by Ilmar Raag is in development as an international co-production and film project I Was Here by Rene Vilbre which was presented in Mannheim Meetings in 2006 and Sofia Meetings 2007 is in post-production.
Riina Sildos is a national representative of EAVE and EMPA and was a member of the Short Film Jury in Berlinale 2007.
2007 she was selected as a representative of Baltic countries to the “Producers on the Move” programme in Cannes IFF
